The Orphic License, version 1.0
The Orphic Church gives this work freely, everywhere and without end. It asks nothing in return but these few things.
Freely given
- This work may be copied, shared, printed and given away, whole or in part.
- It may be adapted and translated, and what is made from it may be shared.
- It may be used for noncommercial research, including machine learning.
In the gift
- The gift travels with its source: the Orphic Church named, the orphic.church link, and the edition's citation block as provided.
- A quotation of a few lines needs only the edition's compact citation.
- This licence travels with it, whole or as a link.
- Changes are said plainly, wherever they are made.
- What grows from this work is given on as it was given, under this same licence.
Outside the gift
- Commerce of any kind: selling it, charging for access, advertising around it, or setting it inside anything sold, such as a product, a dataset or a commercial machine-learning model.
- Selling digital copies. A printed copy may be sold only at its actual cost of printing and delivery, with no margin, and with those costs itemized beside the price.
- Claiming what this licence leaves free, locking it away, or adding terms or locks that take this gift from another.
- Presenting a changed or unsigned text as the Orphic Church's edition, or tampering with its signatures.
- Claiming to be the Orphic Church, or its peer, or endorsed by it, unless the Orphic Church has signed your key.
Always free
- The ancient texts and older editions belong to everyone. We claim nothing in them, in facts, or in anyone else's work.
- Anyone may say their work descends from the Orphic Church, recognized or not.
- You may call yourself whatever you like. We ask, but do not require, that you choose a name other than Orphic Church, so that attribution stays clear.
Our word
- The Orphic Church is known only by its key, and knows no other. What it signs is its word, including every version of this licence. Its peers are those whose keys it has signed.
- If you break these conditions, your use is outside the gift. Put it right within 30 days, or when the Orphic Church signs your return, and you are within it again.
- Nothing in this licence is given up unless the Orphic Church signs to say so.
- This work comes as it is. We make no promises about it and answer for no harm that comes from its use.
